On 7-9 May 2008, International Projects partnered with the Pacific Institute for Public Policy (PiPP) to deliver campaign and party-building training for 30 political party officials from Vanuatu’s major parties, and minor parties and independents as they gear up for the 2 September 2008 Elections. After a process of consultations with local stakeholders, the program targeted a series of challenges which Vanuatu’s political parties will face in the coming campaign.
These included building party membership, mobilising base members, creating appropriate party structures and developing trusted and effective campaign teams. The program also looked at how party platforms and policies relate to campaigning and how fund raising impacts the campaign and community perceptions. The program also discussed procedural and legislative political party reforms.
These training programs build on our ongoing awareness raising activities in Vanuatu. Look out for the Political Parties and Groupings of Vanuatu, First Edition booklet to be launched in the coming weeks, in which Vanuatu’s parties frame the issues as they see them in the lead-up to the September polls.
The PiPP is a non-partisan and independent organisation registered under Vanuatu’s Charitable Associations (Incorporation) Act. The primary function of PiPP is to inform, engage and connect principal stakeholders, promoting fraternity and improving information flows and policy dialogue around the Pacific.
