Terry Wood Contributes To NDI Peaceful Political Participation And Integration In Aceh

Date:  20 July 2007

From 5 to 17 March 2007, Australian Labor International Projects trainer Terry Wood joined a National Democratic Institute (NDI) sponsored multi-national team to provide training and assistance to political parties in Aceh. The program represented an opportunity to capitalise on an enhanced sense of optimism regarding the development of democracy in the province, fostered by recent recognition of local political parties and the election of a provincial governor.

The training team conducted a ten day workshop to build the capacity of twelve Acehnese political parties and organisations and national political parties and organisations working in Aceh.

We thank the NDI country office in Jakarta for organising this training program and their ongoing support to political parties in Indonesia. The program was made possible with financial assistance by the Canadian Government. We thank the Indonesian Embassy for help with visa applications.
