Papua New Guinea Evaluation Mission, 5-10 November 2006

International Projects evaluation mission to PNG discusses greater engagement and possible targeted democracy assistance programs

Date:  13 June 2007

Between 5 and 10 November 2006, an Australian Labor delegation visited Papua New Guinea.

The team met with representatives from eleven major political parties in PNG, as well as key academics, public servants, journalists and civil society organisations to discuss possible technical assistance programs under the APPDP.

The consultations focused on the possibility of undertaking targeted democracy assistance programs in PNG either bilaterally or through multilateral organisations. The evaluation team considered elements of prominence, capacity, policy, internal democracy and receptiveness in determining whether cooperative projects could be undertaken with PNG’s main parties.
